Involvement with EATAW

I became involved with EATAW as an organizer of the 2003 conference in Budapest. I have been a member since then, presenting at both the Budapest and Athens conferences, and will be doing so again in Bochum.

Reasons for Standing/Vision for EATAW as an Organization

I have always supported the aims of EATAW, especially in developing and improving the quality of the teaching of academic writing in Europe. More specifically, I am interested in developing academic writing teaching skills in Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet block. From my own experience, there is a lack of training in this massive expanse of land of so many varied cultures, but with a great willingness to learn if opportunities are provided. I would like to see EATAW more centrally involved in initiating and promoting such opportunities and providing support and encouragement to teachers of academic writing in this region.

Teaching Experience

I have taught academic skills at the university level since 1991 and more specifically, academic writing skills at the post graduate level over the last ten years in Moscow, Budapest, and currently in Prague. I have been Head of Department both in Moscow and Prague and have much experience of teacher training in academic skills, particularly in Russia.
